Mechanical Engineering

About the Department

The department was set up a decade ago. Now, it has graduated to offer B.Tech. Programmes in emerging areas relevant to the context of the industry in the present scenario. As a core branch, the department grows in the rhythm of the needs and demands of the global industries. In recognition of progress and excellence in teaching, research and infrastructure achieved by the department, the undergraduate programme has obtained the accreditation from AICTE in 2009.

Mechanical Engineering is a creative discipline that draws upon a number of basic and applied sciences to design, build, and optimize the devices, machines, processes, and systems that involve mechanical forces, work and energy. Besides those, today’s mechanical engineers are dealing with subjects like thermodynamics, electro-mechanical technology, manufacturing technology and management, material science and simulation. They will also face interdisciplinary problems where they will have to employ their soft skills. The Department aims at preparing students for a broad range of technical positions throughout manufacturing enterprises that require people with a strong grounding in mechanical engineering.

HOD

The Department is headed by Prof. Rakesh Ranjan Polai.

ME Programme

The Department of mechanical engineering offers UG Program in mechanical engineering. Roland Institute of technology being an affiliated college of the Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, Orissa, the programmes offered are as per the BPUT syllabus

The Mechanical Engineering programme was inducted in 2009 with an intake capacity 60 under the name School of Information Technology, Currently, the intake capacity is 60 students. Admission to B.Tech(Mechanical Engineering) programme is strictly through the OJEE qualified candidates and handled centrally by the OJEE counselling process.
