About the Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Roland Institute of Technology, Berhampur, has steadily grown into a distinguished center of learning and innovation since its establishment. Rooted in a mission to develop industry-ready professionals with a strong command over electrical fundamentals and an aptitude for solving modern engineering problems, the department offers a comprehensive B.Tech program in Electrical Engineering. Approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha, the program admits 30 promising students annually and is designed to blend academic excellence with practical relevance.

The department prides itself on its dedicated faculty, each bringing a wealth of teaching experience and industry exposure, committed to shaping the next generation of power and energy experts. The curriculum is built to provide a strong foundation in core electrical domains such as Power Generation and Distribution, Electrical Machines, High Voltage Engineering, Energy Systems and Smart Grid Technologies, while also keeping pace with emerging trends in areas like electric vehicles, energy auditing and automation. The academic structure emphasizes conceptual clarity, design thinking, and real-world problem solving. To support its academic objectives, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories that simulate real-time industrial environments. Facilities like the Power System Simulation Lab, Electrical Machines Lab, and High Voltage Lab enable students to gain critical hands-on experience in modeling, diagnostics and performance evaluation of complex electrical systems. Additionally, the department promotes research and innovation through its Energy Innovation Hub, a platform for students to pursue mini-projects, product development, and collaborative research in renewable integration, efficiency optimization, and sustainable infrastructure.

Strong industry interface forms the backbone of the department’s ecosystem, with students regularly involved in industrial visits, field work, and internships at electricity boards and energy firms to grasp real-world power systems. Participation in technical events and workshops fosters leadership and teamwork. In collaboration with the Training and Placement Cell, students receive strong career support, securing placements in core industries, PSUs, consulting firms, and top universities. With alumni excelling in grid modernization, transport electrification and defence. The department remains committed to producing skilled, responsible and innovation-driven engineers shaping the future of energy and technology.
